ALPHABETICS!

The contestant who wins the game plays Alphabetics. The celebrity gives the contestant clues for ten passwords, each beginning with a different letter of the alphabet: e.g., A-J, B-K, C-L, etc. Each word the contestant gets right is worth $100. If the contestant gets all ten words in sixty seconds or less, he/she wins $5,000! An illegal clue reduces the jackpot by one fifth of its value: e.g., $5,000 goes down to $4,000; $10,000 down to $8,000; $15,000 down to $12,000; etc. Beginning in 1981, the final season, the Alphabetics jackpot began at $5,000 and increased that much every time it was not won.
